This is an official Art Craft first day cover for the 11¢ Airmail Postal Card issued January 4, 1974, in State College, Pennsylvania. The cachet depicts the American Philatelic Building with Comet Kohoutek visible in the night sky above it, tying the new postal card to both contemporary astronomy and the philatelic community.

The 11¢ denomination met the airmail postal card rate in effect during the early 1970s. Comet Kohoutek, discovered in 1973, was widely publicized as a potential “comet of the century” and became a popular topical subject on stamps and cachets worldwide before fading from naked-eye view.

A notable detail is the dual presentation of the stamp design: the left side shows the full Art Craft cachet illustration while the right side bears the actual 11¢ airmail indicium with its distinctive red-and-blue striped envelope motif. The circular first-day cancel clearly reads “STATE COLLEGE / JAN. 4 / 1974 / PA.”

Collectors of airmail, space, and Art Craft cachets will appreciate this clean, well-centered example that combines postal history with the short-lived astronomical excitement surrounding Comet Kohoutek.
