The battles of April 19, 1775, ignited the American Revolutionary War. Colonial militia confronted British regulars at Lexington Green and then at Concord’s North Bridge, events that transformed political protest into armed resistance and led directly to the Declaration of Independence.
The cachet illustrates minutemen in action beneath the famous rallying cry “LET IT BEGIN HERE!” and reproduces Sandham’s dramatic painting on the stamp itself, part of the American Revolutionary Series issued for the Bicentennial.
